Like most of us, history or social studies classes usually meant listening to lectures, reading from textbooks, and answering questions in our notebook. Unfortunately, because of this, many students of today from history boring or confusing. I get asked all the time “why is history important?” or “why am I even in this class?” I knew if I wanted to increase student participation and attendance, I needed to improve engagement. Engagement is critical to the learning process. When students are engaged, their motivation and cognitive abilities increase.
